The rising cost of electricity and environmental issues have been in the news for some years now. Hotels are one of those places that can’t do without electricity and are seeing their bills soar. But at Styqr, we always see the positive. That’s why we’ve decided to put together a list of all the little things you, as a hotel guest, can do to reduce your bill.
1. Light sources
First of all, you need to make the most of what you’ve got and what’s free. Natural light is your best friend in these cases. Try to make the most of it. In corridors and entrance halls, for example, the more you create natural light wells, the less artificial light you’ll need. For bedrooms, kitchens and other common areas, opt for LEDs or low-energy bulbs. You’ll still have the same light source, but at a lower cost! Finally, you can also fit corridors with automatic detectors. This way, they won’t stay on day and night for no reason.
2. Heating and air conditioning
This subject is a little trickier, and understandably so. This is the category that consumes the most electricity. Nevertheless, you can’t ask your customers to shiver in winter and sweat profusely in summer. Even so, you can still reduce your costs. Make sure, for example, that an empty room is not excessively heated or air-conditioned. You can also set up a system to restore the temperature of a room that has just been vacated. Finally, especially in winter, you can control room thermostats so that they don’t exceed 20°. It’s important to remember that the normal temperature in a bedroom should be 16°.
3. Intelligent tools
Don’t hesitate to equip your hotel with key card doors. They can be used to control the opening and closing of the room, as well as its temperature. They can be used to switch on the air-conditioning or heating when you enter the room, and turn it down when you leave. Intelligent window sensors can switch off heating and air-conditioning when windows are opened in the room. And of course, the key to all this is excellent insulation. If you’re planning to build or renovate, don’t neglect your hotel’s insulation. If you do a little research, you’ll discover that you can benefit from grants.
