Among the must-see sights are, of course, a great many of the Loire châteaux, including the best known of all: the Château de Chambord and the Château de Chenonceau, one of the region's most emblematic sites.

Towns with real character

If you love towns and cities, you will not be disappointed. Stop off in Amboise, a true gem of the region, in Bourges with its half-timbered houses, or in Chartres with its magnificent cathedral. It is a genuine architectural masterpiece, so do not miss it. Pay a visit to Orléans too: it is a lovely little city, especially in summer. There are plenty of historic towns to discover. We have mentioned the best known, but do go and seek out the quieter ones as well. This is a region steeped in history and full of monuments.

The troglodyte villages

A little more unusual and genuinely brilliant: you can visit troglodyte villages. You know the ones, homes carved straight into the rock. There are lots of them in this region and they make for a wonderfully original visit. We particularly recommend the town of Trôo, the troglodyte capital.

Discover Beauval Zoo

A truly top activity to enjoy with children, or between adults: Beauval Zoo. It offers a unique experience and a real immersion among the animals. You can even spend the night there if you wish. You can watch a bird show and fly over the zoo by cable car. This is where the baby pandas live!

A day out in the countryside

If you love greenery, head to the Brenne nature park to recharge your batteries. Plenty of walking trails are on offer there, taking you between the park's many ponds.

Cycling for the more active

For the more athletic, and for Sunday strollers alike, you can cycle the Loire. It is a greenway starting in Saumur and finishing at Chambord. A great way to discover all the towns you pass through.

Your taste buds will thank you

Finally, wine lovers and food lovers will find the small town of Sancerre here, famous for its vineyards. Take the opportunity to enjoy a good glass of wine with pâté de Chartres or rillettes de Tours. And for pudding, you simply must try the famous tarte Tatin and the forestines of Bourges. A genuine taste of the region, guaranteed.
