The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region is home to a large number of bastides and medieval villages that have been preserved in their finest condition. They&#8217;re a great way to discover the region, as they&#8217;re scattered all over the place. Just think of <strong>Collonges la rouge<\/strong> in Limousin, <strong>Villefranche du P\u00e9rigord<\/strong>, the bastide town of Monpazier and <strong>Sarlat la Can\u00e9da<\/strong> in Dordogne, or <strong>Monflanquin<\/strong> in Lot et Garonne.<br \/>\nBut that&#8217;s not all, we also recommend a visit to the typical villages of the <strong>Basque Country<\/strong>. From<strong> the Lascaux caves<\/strong> in the Dordogne, world-famous for their paintings dating back to the Paleolithic period, this is no mean feat! From the <strong>Orgues de Bort<\/strong> in the Limousin to the <strong>Pyrenees National Park,<\/strong> you won&#8217;t be disappointed. And just for you, make a detour to<strong> Artouste<\/strong> and take the little train, which is the highest railroad line in Europe. <strong>The cliffs of Meschers<\/strong> <strong>sur Gironde<\/strong>, south of Royan, are also worth a visit. These are <strong>troglodytic caves<\/strong> that can be visited. To admire the white cliffs of Meschers from the best vantage point, we recommend a visit to the village of Talmont sur Gironde. A little further up the coast, just a few kilometers from the beautiful city of Bordeaux, lies the <strong>Arcachon basin<\/strong>.
