Teletravel: the trend for 2021

Teleworking is over, now we do telework. But what exactly is teleworking and what is the difference? We explain it all to you!

1. What is teleworking?

The definition of teleworking is simple: it is teleworking outside the home, in France or abroad. To put it simply: you don’t need to be on holiday to travel!

Its other little name? Workation, which is almost a little more meaningful! This concept, which is not really new, has been brought back into fashion because of the health crisis. With the repeated confinements and therefore teleworking, many have decided to combine work and holidays. At the same time, in such an uncertain context, we confess, we did the same and went to work in Guadeloupe!

Is this a sign that teleworking is on the rise? The decision of the Airbnb platform to indicate the speed of the wifi in the rental ads!

As an example, the Hyatt group, has launched the “Work From Hyatt” extended stay package in 90 hotels in America and the Caribbean. The group explains, “We are looking at the ‘work from anywhere’ trend and believe it resonates with today’s travellers. People are looking for more than weekend getaways and our extended stay package allows guests to enjoy the premium amenities and services of our resorts, all with the benefit of being able to continue working and learning remotely.”

2. Pros and cons of telework?

Teleworking has many advantages :

  • A real break with the daily routine
  • You are often more motivated and work better to benefit from
  • You are more relaxed because the environment is more conducive to relaxation

For companies, it is also interesting because it allows them to relocate offices to pay less rent. Some are really for it, others still have difficulty in accepting telework.

Beware, however, that there may be multiple concerns :

  • Time difference if you are going abroad
  • Superiors who may check your presence a little more
  • Not being able to pick up and enjoy the place a bit
  • Conversely, being fixated on your location and not working hard enough

In our opinion, going to telework requires a lot of mental strength to be able to concentrate in spite of what surrounds you. Before you try it, make sure you are not going somewhere you have always dreamed of going, unless you can follow it up with a real holiday !
